How do Apprenticeships work?

While learning the skills of the industry with an employer you will complete either an Apprenticeship framework or standard including individualised training. Most training is on-the-job at your employer’s premises but there is also 20% mandatory training of off-the-job learning.

Advanced Apprenticeships

If your Apprenticeship entails a day at the Grimsby Institute, your off-the-job plan will be designed and implemented with your trainer assessor in partnership with your employer. If you are successful in gaining an Apprenticeship standard an end point assessment will determine achievements.

Fancy the idea of earning while you're learning?

Getting paid while you learn might sound too good to be true, but as an apprentice you’ll do just that! You’ll be doing a real job for a real employer, apprentices are employed and are paid a wage, so you’ll be like any other employee, but you’ll also be learning at the same time.

What's it worth?

Apprenticeships are available at various Levels, all of which are recognised and respected qualifications that will start you on the path to career success:

Intermediate Apprenticeship – this is a Level 2 qualification equivalent to five GCSEs (Grade A – C or 9 – 4)
Advanced Apprenticeship – a Level 3 qualification equivalent to two A Levels
Higher Apprenticeship – a Level 4 qualification equivalent to a Foundation Degree.
